Barge transportation moves bulk and general cargo at a scale that trucks and rail cannot match on tight project budgets. Our hopper barges carry loose commodities like grain and aggregate in double-hull holds, while flat deck barges handle general cargo and oversized loads headed to job sites along the water.
One of the Largest Barge Transportation Companies on the Water
McDonough Marine has run barge transportation since 1945, when our founder started a leasing business alongside his own construction company. That sideline grew into the largest deck barge fleet available for charter in the country today. Renting from us removes the fleeting costs and compliance work that come with owning a barge outright.
Barge Freight Fleet and Coverage
Our barge freight fleet covers nearly every cargo type on the water. Deck barges carry general and oversized cargo. Hopper barges move bulk commodities in double-hull holds. Spud and crane barges handle construction work on site, and ocean-classed barges add open-water capability for coastal moves.
Eighteen fleet locations reach the Gulf Coast and the East Coast, with river systems extending into the Midwest and Mexico. Our project cargo team manages each move from planning through completion, pairing the right barge with the right towboat on the job. Our membership in the American Waterways Operators Responsible Carrier Program backs every move with a strict safety standard.
Why McDonough Marine?
